Strategy – planning,
process and methodology
Improperly planned and poorly performed migrations of web sites and servers
can have a profound impact on business operations. This can result in significant
lost revenue, extended disruption of service, additional expense and worst
of all, customer dissatisfaction. We understand the complexity and sensitivity
of data migration management and work very closely with our clients to
ensure an appropriate strategy is developed. Every business must balance
cost and risk when contemplating data migration and DataMove offers a variety
of migration strategies which can be modified according to our clients
needs. They are:
 |
Fork-Lift – highest
risk, least cost
Functional or budgetary
constraints require existing production site to be deactivated, dismantled,
and reinstalled at the new site, incurring downtime in all cases.
|
 |
Cut-Over – highest cost, least risk
A functionally complete site is readied at the new location, such that the live
configuration is capable of supporting all subsystems and production traffic
during transition to full capacity. Downtime is minimized or does not occur.
|
|
Segmented – cost and risk can be balanced
The existing production system can be broken into logical segments and migrated
in separate steps. Incremental systems are operationally established at the
new site prior to the migration, and the workload is supported by one segment
as the full configuration is re-established. The final step is to rejoin the
segments at the new site. Data and site synchronization will be accurately
executed to minimize or avoid downtime. |
